All Things Web 2.0 - "THE LIST"

The most current listings are now available as a continuously updated Open Directory at “All Things Web 2.0 – The Directory

— cgm (08/16/06)

Last night I was talking with Bob Stumpel who runs the Web 2.0 Group on OpenBC.  Bob told me about the comprehensive list of Web 2.0 services currently available (usually in beta) — which he has posted and, I assume, the group is keeping current.

Although I continue to be repulsed by the term Web 2.0, I still thought I was keeping pretty current until I took a look at Bob’s list.  While there are alot of Me2Web2 projects on the list, there’s’ a lot that aren’t.   Browsing though this list is definitely worth the gander.

For those of you who make it a point to stay on top of “All Things Web 2.0” — Sorry I just spoiled your weekend.

Thanks Bob, for emailing me this amazing list and giving me permission to reproduce it here.  At the risk of ruining my Google PageRank — There’s Bob’s List   — cgm

I just wanted to respond to the category that Vyew.com is posted under. Vyew is not web-based video conferencing.

In fact, Vyew is a free, web-based collaboration site that provides a feature-rich meeting room with real-time, whiteboard functionality. Within seconds, users can start an online meeting session, where up to 20 participants can share, annotate, and save files/photos (.doc, .xls, .ppt, .jpg, .pdf, etc.) in real-time. Because Vyew is web-based, users can work on virtually any machine, anywhere in the world. (Must be Flash 8 and Java 1.4 enabled.)

Meeting participants can also communicate via instant text chat, pull up Yahoo! Maps (where they can get traffic reports and locate places of interest) and share Google searches. Furthermore, Vyew provides users with the option to access a free voice conference call service through an agreement with freeconferencecalls.com.

Other features include 25MB of free online storage, one-click screen capture/share and session persistence (Vyew remembers where you left off at, so meeting creators can resume their sessions even after they have left and returned to their meeting room).

Hi, great list. Just want to mention one correction. Stylehive, which is a web2.0 social bookmarking for shoppers site, the link is incorrect. It should link to www.Stylehive.com

Great list. Well done.

Posted by: Cheyne at March 17, 2006 12:51 AM

Great list. It's missing a fun new 2.0 search engine. It focuses on jobs, cars, and personals.

Posted by: Kamal [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 17, 2006 04:53 AM

This is a great list, very good work. I was a bit baffled however about the CRM 2.0 section. Who found those together. Well, some are okay, like the Ruby on Rails programmed help desk. However, I miss Open Source CRMs like Drupal (http://www.drupal.org) that are just like made for Web 2.0 web site development...

Hi All,

Since I see a steady flow of people comming to www.souki.com from this blog -and souki.com is in dutch- I thought to drop a line about what souki does. Its a local shop search app, with the difference that we use your own reviews to select which shops are more relevant for you. If you haven't got a review you get the best result according to the whole group of users. Souki.com will launch in the US in about two months. If you want to beta test the us version, drop me a line.

what do the asterisks after last.fm and pandora mean?
and, FWIW, what makes pandora web 2.0, other than the fact that it's new? everything about it is top down, no user generated content, the experts tell you what to like, and they'll get around to the long tail when they have the time, but since it's only a hand picked set of experts', no telling when that'll be.

I really hate the term Web 2.0. But I am loathe to leave Project Opus off your list of Audio 2.0 sites. it only launched just over a week ago, but already has hundreds of bands on it. Please check it out:

Th site enables bands to upload their music, license it, and sell it. Fans can search and browse for music, create playlists, share music, and make connections. I think it deserves to be on your list.

I personally used a lot of what is listed above in the 2.0 world to start my little info sites. Hubpages and Squidoo are definitely the best places to start. Some of the bookmarking links don't show up as links for weeks or even months or not at all. And you really need to include www.funadvice.com

Wanted to let you know that we just launched www.cameroid.com, it's an online webcam application that lets you take and host snapshots straight from your browser. It features several visual effects that can be applied on the fly. All snapshots get a unique URL and can be hosted or downloaded in various sizes.

If you're interested in web 2.0 applications then Listio is the place to go. You can review and vote on your favorite apps and even post your own and have it voted on. It's a great way to test the waters.

Here's a web 2 portland, oregon real estate listing map: http://mappdx.com. It has a unique way of selecting neighborhoods instead of just zooming in and out.

I want to suggest waves.tv into "community 2.0" category. Waves.tv is a webcam entertainment community.

This pre-release (alpha) features Internet's first real photobooth that shoots photobooth pictures in strips of 4 shots. Users can also rate each others photos, and share them using our MySpace widget or direct emailing feature. We're expanding the pre-release features every week, and photobooth facebook application is on the way...

Soon, waves.tv will release its Live Video Game Shows. Using interactive webcam streams and rich features like real-time voting, waves.tv's live shows will have a similar athmosphere to game shows and reality programming on TV.

Alpha users will get an invitation to waves.tv's private beta once the live show environment is ready for user testing.

It is, once again http://waves.tv

You could also add my free directory (http://www.mygreencorner.com) to you list to several categories.

Great list. I found one that could probably go in the blogging section. 49words is kind of like a cross between Twitter and Wordpress. Small, cute, very simple to use, and community based. Thanks, bobbygirl.
