FIND CAPITAL: Directory of Venture Capital Firms
VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM DIRECTORIES
VENTURE CAPITAL / PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM WEB DIRECTORY
This directory is very comprehensive (of course, cause its mine). I've compiled it from multiple sources into a database which I use and which I try to keep up to date. I only add to it and rarely delete listings so it is comprehensive but it may include some dead links and some repeat. This is partly because of the continuously changing venture landscape and my desire not to miss anyone. Don't be fooled about apparent duplications. Venture guys are rarely very original when it comes to naming their firms. I've only posted their public website URLs. I don't feel comfortable sharing more than what these firms choose to make public on their sites. I'd use some of the other databases listed below to narrow down which firms you want to target and then use their websites to make sure of the fit and to fine tune your approach to each firm. It's always worth reading their propaganda first.
INFON FREE VENTURE CAPITAL DAtabase
This is a very comprehensive database with a relatively sophisticated online interface. It's definitely worth the $100 to be able to download and manipulate the data offline, but it's not bad to use online for free. It includes address, phone, fax, and email information in the contact records. Over three thousand Venture Firms are listed. Definitely the best bargain on the web for comprehensive contact information and screening data on Venture Capital and Private Equity Firms.
This is also a very comprehensive database available for download for about $100 and is updated twice a year.
THE DIRECTORY OF VENTURE CAPITAL & PRIVATE EQUITY FIrms
This will set you back nearly $500 for the 1200 page softcover book and nearly $900 with its online database.
Galante’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Directory
This will set you back nearly $800 for the book but includes a CD-ROM database and a mid-year updated CD-ROM.
Pratt's Guide to Venture Capital Sources
This will set you back about $500 for the book ... apparently there is also a CD-ROM version as well.
Venture Capital Associations
National Venture Capital Association
The NVCA also has a directory that's available online and on CD-ROM. The CD-ROM has more functionality since it's an Access database but it only includes NVCA members so it's far from complete and a bit pricey. I'd look elsewhere if you want a more comprehensive database at a reasonable price.
